Meet The Members: Brian Godfrey
In our first ‘Meet The Members’ series, we sat down with Brian Godfrey, a STOTT Pilates Reformer Member at Windham Pilates. After joining our studio in 2020, Brian has gone from having limited mobility to walking without any aid.
What made you want to try STOTT Pilates Reformer?
I was in pain. I couldn't walk without the aid of a walker and my sister in law raved about the many benefits of Reformer. I could see the positive results that she experienced and hoped it would work for me. It did.
What was your first impression of the studio environment?
The studio was peaceful, fragrance, inviting, and not like a gym at all. I had never done yoga or pilates, so it was all new to me. The studio was organized, clean, and the upstairs was full of light and mirrors.
How has your mind and body changed since starting Reformer?
Reformer was a life changer for me. I went from a walker, to a cane, to not having to use any support most days. Pilates has strengthened my inner core, improved my balance, and showed me there is a way to better health for people with limited mobility.
How have your fitness and nutrition goals changed since joining Windham Pilates?
My sessions at Windham Pilates have provided me with the opportunity to work as hard as I can to achieve the goals that I have set for myself. I have experienced a tremendous range of motion that was missing after surgery. I'm still working on my nutrition goals, but it is something that doesn't change overnight.
What is different about Susan, and our whole studio that separates us?
Having never been in a studio setting, nor have I ever been coached by a private trainer, I found pilates to be comforting. It challenges oneself to work muscles that I didn't know I had. The first introduction session I had with Susan was inspiring. There was no pressure as she worked me through some positions to gauge my range of motion and capabilities. Her skill and technique are excellent. Her manner of instruction is clear. Her mentoring capabilities and non judgmental attitude are reassuring. She has shown compassion and understanding for my physical boundaries, and presents workarounds or alternatives to meet the challenges.
